Domestic & Sexual Violence Counselling - Laura

Domestic violence is when someone who you have an intimate or family-type relationship with abuses you. This could be emotionally, psychologically, physically, sexually or financially, and may be all of these. It can be a one off incident but is usually a pattern of manipulative and controlling behaviour from your partner or family member.

Sexual violence; if it isn't your choice then you haven't given consent. No matter how, when and how many times it happened, if it's against your will, it's not acceptable. Sexual violence includes rape, sexual assault, sexual exploitation, female genital mutilation and child sexual abuse.

I have always been drawn to working with survivors of domestic abuse and sexual violence. I noticed how many people came to me with these horrific experiences and embarked on further specialist training and work opportunities, so I could offer more to my clients.

I offer you a safe and supportive space to speak the words you are terrified to say, release feelings eating away at you like shame, anger and self-blame, explore the pain of your experiences, and look at how you can move on in your life to have healthy relationships. I recognise how difficult and scary you may find it to take these steps and I will work at your pace.
